Show Us How You Live, Rafal and Andrea

Posted by Kelly Todd on July 15, 2011  |   No Comments »

We couldn’t help but smile when we read that if Rafal and Andrea’s home had a name, it would be “Sunny.” Not only is that a great name for the bright space this family of three calls home, but it also reflects the happiness they share with others. With a little guy crawling around and offering smiles to everyone that he encounters, “Sunny” very well may be the nickname bestowed upon this darling family.

Lucky for all of you readers, Rafal and Andrea’s house is on the market at the time. If you would like more information, don’t hesitate to give us a call…in the interim, let’s go on over to “Sunny” and see how Rafal and Andrea live.

How long have you lived in your home?

2 exciting years!

Who lives in your house with you (including pets, imaginary friends, etc.)?

Rafal (my husband), Mattias (our 1-year old son), and myself

What made you buy this house?

All the great character elements to the home- the Spanish-style archways and fireplace, huge windows, the textured walls, recessed lighting, and all the loads of extra storage space for all the things I really don’t need!

What is your favorite thing about your home?

Besides all the things we bought it for, the location- being able to walk to Fresh Market, Taste, and Zest, and all the lovely walks on the Monon with Mattias!

What room is used the most?

Our living room and our kitchen (we love food).

What room is used the least?

The dining room- most of our meals are eaten while lounging on the couch!

What room is your favorite and why?

Our living room because of all the big windows letting in all the light and air, and our updated kitchen with the new tile we just put in and all the great storage space.  When we first moved in, we had all these drawers and cabinets we didn’t know what to do with and they were empty- needless to say, it only took a few months for us to fill them up with gadgets like the Food Ninja!

Andrea and Rafal's favorite room.

If you could change one thing about your home, what would it be?

We would have loved to build out the attic for extra office space- it’s a great big area up there.

Do you have a junk drawer? If so, what is the most random thing in the junk drawer? If not, how do you stay so organized?

I used to have a bread box filled with mail and old receipts- I got rid of that and we now instead have several junk drawers. You can take your pick from Christmas decorations that never made it into the Christmas box, or seashells from our wedding near the beach three years ago.

Do you ask that people remove their shoes before coming into your home?

Only after I’ve mopped.

What is your best memory at your home?

Coming home from the hospital with our new little baby Mattias and all our family with us.  Although we will always have the memory of this special time, it will be hard to leave the place where the memory is the most alive for us.

Where do you eat most meals?

On the couch!

What is one thing that you always have in your refrigerator?

Milk for our cappuccinos every morning!

When you have visitors, where does everyone naturally congregate?

In the living room on the couch!

If your house had a name, what would it be?

Sunny!

There are so many rooms in our home that get so much light- with the back sun room, the front sun porch, the afternoon sun that pours into our living room, and large windows in our bedroom, we get so much sunlight!

Sunny's incredible sun porch.

Show Us How You Live, Blake and Chris

Posted by Kelly Todd on June 17, 2011  |   No Comments »

{after the big kitchen renovation}

When we sold Blake and Chris’ home in Broad Ripple last summer, in a little less time than expected, we happened to have the perfect listing in our inventory for their family…thankfully, they saw the potential as well and fell in love with a simply wonderful family home in Washington Township. Two kids, a baby on the way, a large extended family and lots of activity didn’t slow their renovation train one bit…almost immediately, they got busy and have created a BEAUTIFUL space to enjoy.

Since we could go on for pages and pages about how great this family is, we’ll cut straight to the chase…come on in to see how Blake, Chris and their kids live!

How long have you lived in your home?

We have lived here one year.

Who lives in your house with you (including pets, imaginary friends, etc.)?

My husband and I live here along with our kids, Annie (3) and Will (1) and baby #3 due in October!

What made you buy this house?

Love the location and street.  It feels like we live in a park-like setting and we love it!

What is your favorite thing about your home?

Our lot.

What room is used the most?

The kitchen/family room.

{family room before}

{family room after}

What room is used the least?

The guest bedroom.

What room is your favorite and why?

When we renovated our kitchen we added a mudroom with lockers.  It’s helps us keep organized.

If you could change one thing about your home, what would it be?

Perhaps the mansard roof…although styles cycle and who knows, maybe it could come back in a few years. J

Do you have a junk drawer? If so, what is the most random thing in the junk drawer? If not, how do you stay so organized?

Our junk drawer has turned into a battery drawer.  With all of our obnoxious great sound making kids toys, we always need some on hand.

Do you ask that people remove their shoes before coming into your home?

No, maybe that’s why we are having the carpets cleaned next week… J

What is your best memory at your home?

Watching and enjoying our kids grow up here.

Where do you eat most meals?

In the kitchen.

What is one thing that you always have in your refrigerator?

Milk

When you have visitors, where does everyone naturally congregate?

Usually in the kitchen or the 1960’s style bar in the basement.

If your house had a name, what would it be?

The Retreat

Show Us How You Live, Aaron and Alissa

{Kris Kringle}

One of the hardest part of being a homeowner is when it hits you that the space you so lovingly live in will no longer work for your family. With the addition of a darling baby boy, Aaron and Alissa recently came to  realize that their incredible Mill No. 9 condo just isn’t large enough for their growing family (and all of the STUFF that comes with a baby). Fortunately for all of you, dear readers, this place is on the market!

Because Aaron and Alissa adore this place, they are opening their front door for a sneak peek at the place you could call home…just know that you may have frequent visitors to enjoy the roof top deck! Come on in and check out how Aaron and Alissa live at Mill No. 9.

How long have you lived in your home?

Five years.

Who lives in your house with you (including pets, imaginary friends, etc.)?

My husband (Aaron), our seven month son (Parker) and me (Alissa).

What made you buy this house?

I was looking for a downtown city chic historic condo that was accessible to all of the local restaurants and shops on Mass Avenue, and that is exactly what I found in our condo at Mill No. 9! I also loved the opportunity to be the first homeowner of our unit, and one of the first residents to move into Phase 2. We were able to make our own decisions as far as flooring, cabinets, countertops, etc., and we truly made it our own. The 16 foot ceilings and 12 foot windows make the space feel like a true urban condo, and we love having access to a roof top deck overlooking the city. Mill No. 9 is unique in the fact that it is a historic building that was developed into condos in the heart of downtown’s arts and cultural district.

What is your favorite thing about your home?

The windows and the exposed beams, most definitely. They make the condo so unique and give it such an urban feel.

What room is used the most?

The living room, for sure! It is right next to two huge windows that we love. We can open the windows and look into the urban garden. It’s a spacious room that has a really warm feel.

What room is used the least?

The dining room. We love to sit in our living room, even for the majority of our meals, so the dining room doesn’t get as much love as the other rooms.

What room is your favorite and why?

I love our kitchen. We do a lot of entertaining in the kitchen and it’s great to stand in the kithcen and look out at the rest of our condo. I can stand in the kitchen and see outside and watch my 7 month old playing in the living room. We’ve entertained a lot, and I have wonderful memories of our friends sitting at the counter in the kitchen, drinking wine and enjoying weekends among friends and neighbors.

If you could change one thing about your home, what would it be?

I would add another room so we could stay here forever!

Do you have a junk drawer? If so, what is the most random thing in the junk drawer? If not, how do you stay so organized?

Yes, we have a junk drawer. The most random thing in it is probably a collection of iPhone chargers. My husband seems to “lose” iPhone chargers on a regular basis, so we literally have a collection of about 10.

Do you ask that people remove their shoes before coming into your home?

No. We want people to feel cozy in our home at all times. Plus, shoes are a major fashion statement and look best on your feet!

What is your best memory at your home?

Bringing our newborn baby boy, Parker, home. It made our condo feel more like a “home” and more complete than I ever thought possible. I will never forget that moment.

Where do you eat most meals?

In our living room, using our rustic coffee table as our dining table. We love it and the view out the huge windows is a perfect backdrop.

What is one thing that you always have in your refrigerator?

Local beer…we love Sun King!

When you have visitors, where does everyone naturally congregate?

The entertaining usually starts in the kitchen and at the bar, moves to the living room, then often ends up on the roof top deck if the weather is favorable). It is the perfect way to end a great evening, with a view of downtown and watching the sun set.

If your house had a name, what would it be?

My husband says “Kris Kringle.” I’ll go with it. It’s warm, inviting, often jolly with a 7 month old who laughs all the time and has a really cool history. We also have a lot of red accents…so, there you go!

‘Tis the Most Wonderful Time of the Year…

Posted by Kelly Todd on April 19, 2011  |   No Comments »

In real estate, Spring is the most wonderful time of the year…not only does the market gain momentum, but everyone’s home begins to look brighter and happier. The blooming flowers and trees, the freshly-cut grass and the blue skies are almost too much for these girls to handle…we love to show off the many fantastic neighborhoods in Indy when everything is so inviting.

Allison and Kelly have had a busy season so far and we are loving every minute of it…unfortunately, our little blog has had to take a back seat to our active projects for the past few weeks. While we would love to tell our clients to “hold up, wait a minute, we gotta do a blog post,” you know that is just not how we roll at KTG. We are oh so lucky to have such incredible clients and make it a priority to dedicate as much of our time to them as possible. But…never fear, we will be back to our normal posting schedule shortly.

In the interim, give Allison and Kelly a call if you are considering a move this year…we would love the opportunity to help you explore the Indianapolis real estate market!

Show Us How You Live, Deanna and Tom

Posted by Kelly Todd on March 11, 2011  |   No Comments »

When Deanna and Tom first contacted us about selling their home in Meridian Kessler, we were immediately impressed with their strong sense of family, organization and busy schedule. With three rambunctious little boys, this active family of five simply needed more space. While they loved the character of their home, they knew that having more space for their kids to be kids was a top priority.

Off we went to Carmel, where it was love at first sight with their new house…what wasn’t to love?! This house was precisely what they needed and had all of the features they knew they would want (not to mention Tom, a pediatrician, can ride his bike to the office…how cool is that?!). Let’s take a peek inside this great family’s house to see how Tom, Deanna and their three kids live.

How long have you lived in your home?

We have lived in our home for 18 months!

Who lives in your house with you (including pets, imaginary friends, etc.)?

Our household consists of me, my husband, and our 3 boys.

What made you buy this house?

We wanted to buy this house from the first time we saw it.  It was in the perfect location and had all the things we were looking for in terms of size and layout.

What is your favorite thing about your home?

My attached garage and Mudroom!  I know that sounds crazy but our old house had a detached garage (which was such a pain) and no place for coats, shoes etc.  Our house has a dedicated mudroom just off the garage and it just keeps life neater and more organized!

What room is used the most?

Our kitchen – I call it my “Command Center”

What room is used the least?

Our dining room – although it is great to have for big family gatherings!

What room is your favorite and why?

My bedroom!  We just got new furniture and it is now my retreat from the everyday crazy of life!

If you could change one thing about your home, what would it be?

We would move it to a cul du sac.

Do you have a junk drawer? If so, what is the most random thing in the junk drawer? If not, how do you stay so organized?

What do you mean one junk drawer – doesn’t everyone have at least 2?  The most random thing in it is a broken lightening mcqueen watch we just found!

Do you ask that people remove their shoes before coming into your home?

Kids – yes!!!!  Adults, no!

What is your best memory at your home?

A game my husband plays with our kids at bedtime – he lets the twins ride on his feet and our other son on his back and he goes up 2 flights of stairs!  It has become of funny ritual we love!

Where do you eat most meals?

At our kitchen table

What is one thing that you always have in your refrigerator?

Milk – times 3 or 4 gallons!

When you have visitors, where does everyone naturally congregate?

In our kitchen – where else!

If your house had a name, what would it be?

“The Cafeteria”  – because we feel like all we do is prepare, serve, eat and clean up after meals – then repeat!!!
